Flanked by 2 scenic rivers and nestled within a small rift valley in the Central Highlands of Costa Rica, the Spirit Quest Tent Camp site consists of almost 100 acres, boasting sprawling pastures, thick primary rainforest, steep terrain and rugged canyons with roaring waterfalls. The northern boundary of the property is defined by the confluence of the two majestic rivers. While the southern end weaves itself into the primary forest that makes up Braulio Carrillio National Park. Wildlife is always abundant and birdwatchers will never be disappointed.
The site was thoughtfully selected because of its tranquil energy, scenic and open vistas, and its remoteness. It is a rugged and wild setting, and depending on rainfall amounts, the river sounds can either sedate you off to sleep or activate your chi.
Currently, Spirit Quest Retreats offers a comfortable tent camping experience at this enchanted location as its base for retreats and workshops. Several of the retreats involve the hands-on building of the camp structures as a theme for the curriculum itself. This interactive approach allows the participants to engage in skillful activities that make a community difference and provides incentive for them to return in the future to observe the outcome that they helped to manifest. It is a fulfilling experience.
The development of this site is as organic as the site itself. Plans are under way to construct 11 rustic tent platforms in craftsman-style fashion using materials taken from the site. Wherever possible, natural materials will be harvested and used in the construction of the structures. River stone; earthen clays; fallen trees; bamboo etc will comprise the majority of the building materials. The master plan also includes the construction of the "living machine" waste-water treatment system; planting of organic crops; and the installation of a 40 kilowatt hydro electric system on the Rio General. A large covered pavilion on the bank of the Rio Corinto is being designed as a gathering space for learning and exploring oneself. This delightful area will also serve as the yoga shala and classroom. The camp will share 2 separate bath quarters for hygiene, while a dip in the crystal clear river is more than adequate to cleanse oneself and rejuvenate the body.
With this sustainable infrastructure in place, Spirit Quest Tent Camp will be an enchanted location to host workshops and seminars of all varieties.
It is a rugged and wild setting that allows for a permanent camping and retreat location with much attention given to minimizing its footprint while maximizing comfort.
